Door County –
Mother Nature’s Splendor
June 2-4, 2025
Guided Trolley Tour, Fish Boil, Michigan Lake Scenic Cruise & more!
Where in the world is Door County? Door County is a region in “the left thumb” of Wisconsin – the small land mass projecting in the water from the east-central side of the state that contains 34 named islands and dozens of small cities, towns and communities. This is a beautiful time of the year and we’re anticipating cherry blossoms throughout Door County. Few destinations in the Midwest provide a combination of natural beauty, small-town charm and a sense of history as rich as Door County. With 300 miles of shoreline, you can watch a sunrise and a sunset over the water without leaving Door County. Join Laura and Gary Block, June 4th thru the 6th for three days and two nights of fun and adventure.
We leave Little Falls at 6:30 a.m. June 2nd and will pick up in Royalton, Rice, St. Cloud or anywhere else along the way. Our comfortable North Star motor coach and driver will take us to the northeast tip of Wisconsin. On our way to Door County, we have an included lunch at the Wausau Mine Company. A visit to this restaurant is an experience you will never forget. They have recreated a “Mine Shaft” atmosphere so you feel like you are on an adventure deep in the heart of a gold mine. From the moment you enter, you can see the unique “Mine Shaft” atmosphere and you know you’re in for a great time. Later in the afternoon we’ll be checking into our evening accommodations for the next two nights. The main lodge at the Lodge at Leathem Smith is Sturgeon Bay’s most nostalgic getaway. They are a family-owned business, so they want you to feel right at home when you walk through their doors. Each room is stocked with a coffee pot and Starbucks coffee. Please note that this two-story hotel does not have an elevator, but baggage handling is included. Tonight, enjoy an included welcome dinner at Nightingale Supper Club in Sturgeon Bay. Supper Club dining is a Wisconsin specialty. The Nightingale Supper Club has been serving Door County families since 1913. They are not a “Club” that requires membership, anyone is welcome to enjoy the “Supper Club” experience in their cozy atmosphere. The rest of the evening is all yours to enjoy.
Day two starts with an included breakfast. We depart the hotel and head to the Door County Trolley Station in Egg Harbor. Take off on a narrated scenic tour. Welcome to Door County, where the beauty of nature meets the charm of small-town living. Get ready to experience the very best of the peninsula on this scenic tour, a journey that will take you on a magical ride through the breathtaking vistas, scenic bluffs, and blissful villages. Step aboard the “Old Time” Trolley and prepare to be dazzled by the stunning landscapes that unfold before your eyes. You’ll see the islands, and traverse the land, learning about the legend and lore unique to the area. Following that tour, it’s lunch time! Enjoy an included lunch at Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant, in Sister Bay, famous for the Goats on the Roof. Al Johnson’s is an authentic Swedish family-owned restaurant where you can find goats grazing the sod roof. It’s quite a sight, and it’s made this place one of the most famous restaurants in Door County. Inside the casual, carpeted dining room, young ladies in Scandinavian garb dish out limpa bread and Swedish meatballs. The menu consists of a variety of Swedish fare. This afternoon we arrive at Sister Bay Marina and prepare to sail off on a Sister Bay Scenic Boat Tour on Lake Michigan. Embark on a breathtaking adventure aboard a magnificent 125-passenger, double-decker tour boat as we sail along the stunning shores of Green Bay towards the incredible Eagle Bluff Lighthouse at Peninsula State Park. Brace yourself for an immersive and insightful narrative that will transport you back in time as they delve into the rich history and heritage of the charming village of Ephraim, while admiring the impressive millionaire’s estate ‘Englemar” on Horseshoe Island. Get your cameras ready as you approach the majestic Peninsula State Park, and witness the jaw-dropping Eagle Cave perched 40 feet above the shoreline. Your tour takes you on a journey of discovery, regaling you with fascinating tales of the French explorers and early Indian inhabitants that once called Nicolet Bay their home, as you cruise around Welker’s Point in the park. As you draw nearer to the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, keep your eyes peeled for some of the native wildlife that call this area home, such as whitetail deer quenching their thirst along the shore or a majestic bald eagle soaring above. Our next stop is The Hardy Gallery in Ephraim. The gallery is situated directly on the shore of Eagle Harbor and has been a pillar of the Door County art community since the mid-1900’s. The Gallery closes shortly after we arrive, however the main attraction is the outside of the building. Get your picture taken outside the graffiti-covered historic warehouse on Anderson Dock – a truly iconic Door County location. Every inch of the exterior is covered with graffiti, some dating back 10-12 years. It’s a short walk to our next stop, the Old Post Office Restaurant where we’ll learn the history of the famous Door County fish boil which you’ll soon be enjoying. The Lake Michigan whitefish is caught by local fishermen and prepared outside over a roaring open fire. Small potatoes and onions are boiled first, and the fish are then dropped into the steaming kettle. The fish boil offers delicious history, too. The Scandinavians are credited with bringing it to the county more than one hundred years ago. The Old Post Office specializes in carrying on this tradition. Enjoy the traditional Door County Fish Boil while capturing the sunset.
Day three begins with breakfast at the hotel. We’ll depart to the Belgian Heritage Center in Brussels . The Center tells the story of the Belgian settlement in Wisconsin and works to preserve unique elements of Belgian culture such as foods, beverages, customs, architecture and the Walloon language. A step-on guide will join the group and take us on a journey to other Belgian churches as they share the history of the area. We return to the Center for a short tour and an included authentic Belgian lunch. It’s homeward bound after lunch with plenty of memories to talk about. Sign up today, this will be a fabulous getaway!
