Patsy Cline at the Flame Cafe
Walker Bay Theater in Walker & Italian Dinner in Dorset
July 25, 2018
It’s a new venue for Gary Block Tours and a new show! Join Laura and Gary Block on Wednesday, July 25th as we travel to the Walker Bay Theater, celebrating 10 years of bringing arts to the Northwoods, and where the Minnesota Folklore Theater will present “Patsy Cline at the Flame Café”. After the show, we head to Dorset for a delicious Italian dinner and a little relaxation. Our Andy’s Charter Service motor coach leaves Little Falls for Walker at 12:30 p.m. from the northeast corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot in Little Falls. We’ll pick up in Baxter or anywhere else along our route. Located in northwest Minnesota, the Walker Bay Theater overlooks Leech Lake and is dedicated to performing plays and musicals about Minnesota and the Midwest. You’ll be taken back in time to 1958 when the famed singer, Patsy Cline, appeared at the Flame Café in Minneapolis and the Dave Stone Country Barn Dance at the Dance Land Ballroom in Excelsior Park. The shows were also “live” radio broadcasts. Enjoy an afternoon of songs and humor during this re-enactment of Patsy’s appearances in the Twin Cities. Sit back and enjoy her greatest hits such as “Crazy”, “Walkin’ After Midnight”, “I Fall to Pieces”, “She’s Got You”, “Sweat Dreams”, “Leavin’ on Your Mind” and more. After the show, it’s over to Dorset, the “Restaurant Capital of the World” for dinner at La Pasta Italian Eatery. Choose one of the following entrees when you’re at the restaurant…Cannelloni, Lasagna, Spaghetti with Meatballs, Manicotti with beef, cheeses and red sauce, Chicken Fettuccini with Alfredo Sauce, Chicken Primavera with Veggies and Alfredo Sauce, Andouille & Penne, a spicy Cajun-style sausage with red, yellow & green peppers with a garlic butter sauce on penne noodles and an American choice this year, roast beef! After dinner, there will be time to explore small-town friendly Dorset where the streets are lined with boardwalks, casual porch swings and flower baskets. The city suffered a horrendous fire at two of their restaurants in 2014 and Companeros and the Dorset House with that delicious ice cream have been rebuilt. Life in Dorset continues and the shops are filled with special items from artistically-crafted pottery and lamps to unique décor and antiques. Dorset has a population of 22 people and the shops are all within walking distance, since the town is only one block long. We will be returning to Little Falls around 9:30 p.m. Join us for a fabulous and fun one day getaway in northern Minnesota.
