Boat Cruise & Lunch at Summerhill Farm

     When was the last time you were at Itasca State Park in northwest Minnesota?  People come from all over the world to marvel at the serene birthplace of the mighty Mississippi River.  Maybe this would be your first visit to Minnesota’s oldest state park or it’s been a few years since you discovered this wonder of Mother Nature.  Join Laura and Gary Block on Thursday June 29th as we travel to northern Minnesota for lunch at Summerhill Farm, enjoy a cruise on Lake Itasca and spend a little time at the headwaters. 

     We depart Little Falls at 8:45 a.m. from the northeast corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot and our Andy’s Charter Service motor coach will also pick up in Randall and Motley or anywhere else on our route. Lunch will be at Summerhill Farm, north of Park Rapids, Enjoy a choice of three meals in the Sun Porch Restaurant created in 1987 from the original farmhouse. After lunch, walk around and experience the charm of their seven specialty shops and discover Summerhill Farm’s foods, toys, distinctive clothing and unique home accessories.  Or just relax on what hopefully will be a beautiful June day on the farm.  It’s back on the motor coach as we travel to Itasca State Park.  Once we enter the park, sit back and take in Mother Nature’s beauty all around us as w travel to Lake Itasca.  Welcome aboard the Chester Charles II, the only river boat at the source of the Great Mississippi River.  We’ll follow the same route Henry Schoolcraft did when he recorded the source of the river in 1832 on our two hour naturalist narrated cruise on Lake Itasca.  See and learn about the real Itasca.  After we return to shore, we’ll take a break at the Mary Gibbs Visitor Center which features exhibits on the river history and cultural importance.  If you’d like, this is the time to take the short walk to the origin of the Mississippi.   We’ll be returning to Little Falls around 7:30 p.m.  Give us a call and sign up today for a wonderful time.

Travel notes: Both of our June day trips to the state capitol and river cruise sold out quickly.  We would

consider adding another one this summer, if there’s enough interest.  If you interested, let us know!
