Hooray for the Holidays

Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

November 24-25, 2012

Every once in a while, a getaway presents itself that is too good to resist!  And this trip is irresistible!!  Join Laura and Gary Block, Saturday and Sunday, November 24th and 25th, as we travel to southeast Wisconsin for a holiday week-end filled with Christmas shows, great food and other delights.  We’ll depart Little Falls at 6:45 a.m. on November 24th from the northeast corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot.  Our comfortable Andy’s Charter Service tour coach will also pick up in Royalton, Rice, St. Cloud and anywhere else on our route. Lunch is on our own today as we head east into Wisconsin.  Our destination is Lake Geneva, a city that recently was included in the Fine Living Top Ten List of U.S. resort towns with other cities such as Key West, Aspen and The Hamptons.  Tucked within historic Lake Geneva is our home for the evening, Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, one of only five AAA four-diamond, five-star resorts in Wisconsin.  An enchanting landscape of rolling hills and pristine views awaits our arrival. The Grand Geneva features Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired architecture with deluxe guest rooms that are newly designed.  The rooms feature new carpeting, drapery and furniture inspired by an eclectic collection of a lake country-style estate home.  The new features include a micro-refrigerator, a 37” LCD flat screen TV, as well as a TV embedded in the bathroom mirror.  We’ll have time to relax or explore the resort as we anticipate a wonderful evening of Christmas in the country, featuring the musical “Hooray for the Holidays!” at the Forum Theatre.  The theatre is also highlighting a Festival of Trees, an elaborate display of Christmas trees decorated by area businesses, plus the Quilts of Christmas, an elegant display of Christmas quilts from area quilters.  Throughout the holidays, amateur and professionals display their gingerbread house masterpieces for all of us to appreciate.  A delicious three course meal will be served at our reserved tables. Following dinner, sit back and enjoy the musical “Hooray for the Holidays!”.  The show features a superb six-piece live orchestra, The Mistletones”, who along with the cast will treat us to a spectacular two hour stage production full of colorful costumes and exciting choreography.  Holiday teas and cookies will also be served during intermission.  A step-on guide will join us after the show for a guided tour that will encompass Grand Geneva’s elaborate outdoor displays with over one million lights.  See Santa on his Harley as well as his helpers along the way.  We’ll return to the resort’s hotel for a very relaxing evening.

Sunday morning we’ll have an optional shuttle for those who wish to attend Mass at St. Francis de Sales, a Catholic church built in 1892.  A continental breakfast will be served in the ballroom as we prepare for another great day of holiday experiences.  We’ll board the coach and travel to Delavan, the “Circus Capitol of the World”, where 26 circus companies once called Delavan “home”.  Today we’ll meet “The Dancing Horses” where their theater has been transformed into a Christmas Wonderland and have lunch with Prancer the resident reindeer.  This will be a traditional turkey dinner with dressing, corn, mashed potatoes, salad, roll, unlimited lemonade, tea or coffee with mint ice cream pie for dessert.  This show will get everyone in the holiday spirit when Christmas magic comes to life.  Experience the enchantment of “The Dancing Horses”.  When you see the pageantry and the beautiful blending of skill and communications between horse and human, you will become enthralled with the music and motion.  You will slip into a world of imagination…the world of “The Dancing Horses”.  Watch the majesty of these exquisitely trained horses against the backdrop of the state-of-the-art Dancing Waters.  The mesmerizing beauty and synchronization of the spectacularly illuminated Dancing waters will take your breath away.  From the moment the show opens until the finale, you’ll be spellbound by this Vegas-style performance set to Christmas music.  We’ll also have time to enjoy the tropical bird theater next door where we will meet their amazing parrots.  These tropical treasures can roller skate, play basketball and sing.  This is also the home of Echo, the singing parrot who appeared on America’s Got Talent Season Six and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  What a delightful week-end this will be.  Dinner will be on our own as we travel north through Wisconsin and back home to Minnesota.  This year make “Hooray for the Holidays” part of your holiday tradition.  It may seem early to sign up for a November trip, but we ask you to make your decision by September 1st or earlier so we can inform Grand Geneva on the amount of rooms we’ll need.  This is a very popular week-end for them and there’s a huge demand for rooms.  So sign up soon and enjoy a great week-end.
