June 11 – 14, 2018
Become Mark Twain as we cruise South down the Mississippi River from Burlington, Iowa to Hannibal, Missouri on the Celebration Belle. You’ll enjoy three full meals on-board, live entertainment, three locks and dams and beautiful scenic views. And that’s just the beginning! We’ll cruise and lunch on the Mark Twain Riverboat in Hannibal and enjoy a trolley tour of Mark Twain’s city. On our third day it’s “The Bridges of Madison County” production and dinner at Circa 21 Theater. Experience the Chocolate Manor in Davenport, Iowa and the World’s largest Truck Stop and Truck Museum in Walcott, Iowa. You can be part of this excitement as we explore three states, when you join Laura and Gary Block in June for this four day getaway. Our Andy’s Charter Service coach departs Little Falls from the northeast corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot early in the morning on June11th and heads south. We’ll pick up in Royalton, Rice, St. Cloud, the Twin Cities or anywhere else along our route. We’ll travel through southern Minnesota and across Iowa today, stopping for lunch on our own. Tonight we stay at Marriott’s Fairfield Inn in Burlington, Iowa which is located directly across the street from the Catfish Bend Casino. Dinner is on our own. Do some gaming or enjoy the hotel accommodations tonight.
Our second day begins as we step aboard the Celebration Belle for a fun-filled day as we cruise to Hannibal, Missouri. In its 33rd cruising season, the Celebration Belle is a 770 passenger paddlewheel boat specifically designed for the waterways of the Mississippi River. Relax and enjoy the splendor of the Mississippi River. We’ll enjoy live entertainment, Captain’s narration and beautiful scenic views while we travel through three locks and dams, including the hydroelectric lock and dam. It is awesome to watch and feel the river rise and fall during these lockings. This cruise will surely give you a greater appreciation of the majesty of the mighty Mississippi. Come hungry also! This cruise includes three full meals: full breakfast buffet, full hot lunch buffet and a full prime rib dinner buffet, prepared fresh onboard. There is a full bar, gift shop and two observation decks with plenty of tables and chairs to sit outside on the top decks. You can also visit the Captain in the pilot house. Early evening we land at Hannibal where our motor coach will be waiting to transport us to the new Holiday Inn Express, our home for the evening. How new is it? The construction of the hotel is scheduled to be finished by the end of April!!
The third day begins with breakfast at the hotel. This morning we’ll explore Hannibal on an old-fashioned trolley ride. Relax, sit back and enjoy the Grand Tour. This 14 mile, one-hour narrated tour of Historic Hannibal includes scenic overlooks, famous landmarks and beautiful homes from the past. The Mark Twain Riverboat has a been a unique fixture on the banks of the Mississippi River for more than 30 years offering visitors an up-close view of the river. We’ll be boarding the Mark Twain and have the opportunity to explore the Mississippi just like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. The riverboat is 120 feet long, 33 feet wide and has a 400 passenger capacity, so there’s plenty of room aboard the vessel. Our sightseeing cruise includes commentary on river history, legends and sights. We’ll see Jackson’s Island, Lover’s Leap and more, plus top off our cruise with a delicious turkey lunch on board the river boat. It’s time to begin our journey to the north as we head to Moline, Illinois. Let’s check into our home for the evening, the Stoney Creek Hotel which is located on the banks of the Mississippi in the heart of downtown Moline. According to TripAdvisor, Stoney Creek is the #1 hotel for unique lodging in the Quad Cities. There’s time to freshen up for our night out at Circa 21, originally the Fort Armstrong Theatre which opened in 1921. Painstakingly restored, this historic theater became a dinner theater complete with beautiful surroundings and an elegant atmosphere. Our reserved tables begin in the 3rd row center stage and the dinner is fabulous. The five entrée buffet includes a meat-carving station, a poultry, fish, vegetarian and either a beef or pork entrée, plus two potato/starch options, two vegetable options, dinner rolls and coffee or tea. Enjoy the Bootlegger’s 15 minute pre-show and then it’s the professional production of “Bridges of Madison County”. Based on the best-selling novel, the show captures the lyrical expanse of America’s heartland on an Iowa farm along with the yearning entangled in the eternal question, “What if?” Romance comes sweeping down the plains in a passionate musical that was the winner of the 2014 Tony Award for Best Score and Orchestrations. This sweeping romance about the roads we travel, the doors we open and the bridges we dare cross has been leaving audiences breathless.
Our final day begins with breakfast at the hotel and a visit to the Chocolate Manor in Davenport, Iowa. They’ve been serving the area for many years with delicious gourmet, hand-crafted chocolates and candies. Our group will enter the kitchen and enjoy Rose’s chocolate making demonstration and do some tasting also. One more attraction before we begin our journey home, is a visit to the World’s Largest Truck Stop and Trucking Museum in Walcott, Iowa. Iowa 80 Truckstop is like a small city, others have likened it to a Trucker’s Disneyland and all can agree it is a place not to be missed. Lunch is on your own at the food court where there are lots of options. At the trucking museum, see many rare one-of-a-kind antique trucks and toys that are on display. It’s a great way to view and learn even more about the trucks of yesteryear. This a captivating four day trip that we’ll find fun and relaxing with seven included meals. Make sure you sign up today for a well-deserved fabulous summer getaway.
